Tryon Street: Got Brick?

Ow, she's a brick (duh, duh, duh) house...

But not for long!

Yesterday, we started tackling the massive brick 'structure' in the middle of the house. I say structure because not only was brick used for the fireplace but it also continued its way into the kitchen where the oven and stove were built into it. Here's a refresher in case you forgot what it looked like.

Brick continued on the other side of the wall into the kitchen.

As we began to remove the wood paneling and hammer away at the first layer, the full extent of the brick was exposed.

Luckily for us, the brick used inside is the same as the brick used on the outside of the house. This means we can salvage the brick and use it later down the road for things such as walkways or patios outdoors.

Our plan for the fireplace is to scale back the size a bit and insert a gas fireplace. Additionally, we will reface the old brick with an updated tile or brick veneer to give it a completely new feel.
